About

Dr. P. Saravanan, graduated from Bishop Heber College, Trichy, pursued his Post Graduation at Pachaiyappa’s College, Chennai, M.Phil. and Ph.D. studies in the University of Madras. He started his teaching career in 1979 as Assistant Professor of History in Pachaiyappa’s College and continued his service in various Government colleges in Tamil Nadu including the Presidency College.  Never forgetting his roots he has evinced profound interest in the welfare of the students and consciously committed to extending a helping hand to the downtrodden.

Dr. P. Saravanan has been a painstaking researcher with keen interest to explore the unknown regions in the contemporary History of Tamil Nadu. He has published his MPhil study as a book entitled “The Temples of Thirumalisai”, which is a valuable contribution to a better understanding of the rich cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu. His Ph.D. research work “The Tamil Nadu Legislative Council – 1937-1986” has added a new dimension to the History of Legislature in India and Tamil Nadu in particular and answered the questions like why it was created, what role was assigned to the second Chamber, how far it fulfilled its functions and why it was abolished. During his 30 years of collegiate service Dr. Saravanan, has attended and presented papers in numerous conferences, participated in workshops, seminars and published many research articles.

Dr. P.Saravanan, commenced his career of Educational administrator in 2005 with his nomination to the position of Controller of Examinations of Government Arts (Autonomous) College, Nandanam, Chennai. He shouldered the onerous responsibility and exemplified himself as Controller of Examinations during the 4 years of his tenure by being conscientious and trustworthy of the chair and adduced a new credential to the chair, which very few could uphold.

His sincere devotion and enthusiasm in serving the institutions has culminated in his appointment as the Registrar of the University of Madras, the pioneering University of India. Dr. P. Saravanan in his two years of tenure in the University of Madras has promoted the developmental activities in all the five campuses of the University. The recruitment of more than 100 non-teaching staff in a transparent and hassel free manner, which is an unprecedented effort in the annals of University of Madras, speaks about his administrative acumen and honesty.

After the completion of his state Government service, Dr. P. Saravanan continued his academic career as the Registrar of AMET University, Chennai and served for six years. He is instrumental in the documentation of all the activities of the University and coordinated for the successful completion of more than ten visits by Apex Bodies such as UGC, AICTE, DGS etc., and also for the ranking and accreditation of NAAC, NIRF, ISO etc.

Dr.P. Saravanan is serving as Registrar since 2020 in VISTAS, a multidisciplinary University encompassing three campus with 16,000 students, 2000 teaching and non-teaching staff, with his understanding of the administrative nuances learned from five Principals and three Vice-Chancellors under whom he served with devotion to duty and Institutional loyalty.
