Facilities for Differently Abled

Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies (VISTAS) is committed to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and accessible educational environment for all learners, including persons with disabilities. In alignment with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and UGC guidelines, the institution has established a comprehensive framework of access and support systems to eliminate barriers and ensure equal participation in academic and campus life.

A dedicated Support Services Committee for Differently Abled Persons, comprising a Convenor and Members, has been constituted to oversee and implement inclusive initiatives. The committee plays a central role in policy execution, monitoring support services, and addressing the needs of differently abled students and faculty members.

Mentoring and Counselling Services form a vital component of this framework. Personalized mentoring and professional counselling sessions provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals to discuss academic, personal, and emotional concerns. These services focus on confidence building, resilience, and the development of effective coping strategies. The institution’s Equal Opportunity Cell ensures that all students receive fair and unbiased access to academic resources, opportunities, and institutional support. It actively promotes inclusivity and safeguards the rights of differently abled individuals. Accommodation Support is provided through accessible hostel facilities designed to ensure safety, comfort, and independence. Separate arrangements for male and female students further enhance privacy and security.

VISTAS emphasizes Infrastructure and Accessibility by incorporating ramps, assistive technologies, barrier-free pathways, and accessible classrooms to support mobility and learning. An Inclusive Teaching and Learning Environment is fostered through adaptive teaching methods, digital learning tools, and faculty sensitization, ensuring that diverse learning needs are effectively addressed.

Regular Awareness and Sensitization Programs are conducted to cultivate empathy, respect, and understanding among students and staff, thereby strengthening an inclusive campus culture. A robust Grievance Redressal Mechanism is in place to promptly address concerns and ensure accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Through these integrated efforts, VISTAS reaffirms its commitment to empowering differently abled individuals and creating a supportive environment where every learner can thrive with dignity and confidence.
