Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDGs) Cell
The Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDGs) Cell at Vels Institute of Science, Technology & Advanced Studies (VISTAS) is an internal committee established in alignment with the recommendations of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the vision of the National Education Policy 2020. The Cell is committed to promoting equity, inclusion, and equal access to quality higher education for students belonging to socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
The Cell strives to create an inclusive, supportive, and discrimination-free campus environment where every student, irrespective of their social, economic, cultural, linguistic, geographical, or educational background, receives equal opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed. It coordinates academic, financial, psychological, and career support initiatives while ensuring that institutional policies and practices foster social justice and educational excellence.
Objectives of the SEDGs Cell
- To promote equitable access to higher education for students belonging to Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDGs).
- To ensure an inclusive, safe, and discrimination-free academic environment within the institution.
- To identify students requiring academic, financial, social, or psychological support and facilitate appropriate assistance.
- To create awareness about government scholarships, fellowships, financial aid, fee concessions, and welfare schemes available for SEDGs.
- To organize mentoring, remedial coaching, bridge courses, career guidance, and skill development programmes.
- To encourage participation of SEDGs students in academic, research, cultural, sports, innovation, and leadership activities.
