Vels Institute of Science, Technology, and Advanced Studies (VISTAS) is committed towards complying with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in all its practices and the Institution’s efforts to meet up Women Empowerment is very distinct. Imbibing the spirit of Women Empowerment percolates from the Management to all the members of the Institution. In this journey of building a Women empowered Institution which fosters growth and development of women VISTAS follows a meticulous approach. It can be described in terms of:
Measures taken towards Women Empowerment in Governance. VISTAS believes that the role of women in governance and leadership is a strategic imperative which will drive innovation and bring out success for the institution. Women representation is ensured at all levels of the Institution.
Objectives
- To promote Gender Equality and foster an inclusive environment by creating awareness about gender equality, women’s rights, and equal opportunities for all.
- Ensure Safety and Well-being , Provide a safe, secure, and supportive environment by addressing issues related to harassment, discrimination, and gender-based violence.
- To Enhance Leadership and Skill Development , to Organize workshops, seminars, training programs, and mentoring sessions to develop leadership, communication, entrepreneurial, and life skills among women.
- To Create Awareness of Legal Rights and Government Schemes Educate women about their legal rights, constitutional provisions, workplace rights, and government welfare schemes through awareness campaigns and expert sessions.
- To Support Personal and Professional Growth, Encourage academic excellence, career development, financial independence, and entrepreneurship by providing guidance, counseling, and networking opportunities.
- Offer vocational training programmes in tailoring, handicrafts, food processing, digital literacy, computer applications, beauty and wellness, and other income-generating activities for women in the rural areas.
- Observe important national and international days related to women’s empowerment through rallies, street plays, exhibitions, awareness walks, and community campaigns.
- Promote gender equality, environmental sustainability, sanitation, and social responsibility.
- Conduct entrepreneurship development workshops and provide guidance on accessing financial assistance, microfinance, and government support schemes.

V.FUND 5.0 – Empowering Women Entrepreneurs:
With 204 applications from across Tamil Nadu, 60 women entrepreneurs were shortlisted, and after a rigorous evaluation, 3 outstanding women-led startups were awarded ₹2 lakh each to fuel their dreams.
VISTAS continues to champion women’s empowerment and success.
International Women’s Day at VISTAS celebrated inspiring women achievers from governance, entrepreneurship, and sports. The event featured Kavitha Ramu, I.A.S., Director of Museums, Government of Tamil Nadu, entrepreneur Swarnamugi Raghupathy, and international rifle shooter Elavenil Valarivan, who shared insights from their journeys with students. As part of the celebration, VISTAS provided ₹2 lakh seed funding each to three women entrepreneurs through the V.FUND initiative and introduced the V Fund Accelerator Programme to support women-led startups.
